A few years ago, I was walking through the hallways of my corporate office when a colleague I had never met stopped me. “I don’t know if you’re a manager or just regular staff like me,” they said, “but you’re always so well put together.”

It was meant as a compliment. But what struck me was not just the comment itself, it was the unspoken message behind it about personal image decisions.
